Duke Energy

The Duke Energy company serves about 552,000 residential customers throughout Ohio.  The deregulation of electricity in Ohio has changed Duke Energy from a full service electricity company (generation, transmission, and distribution) to just a transmission and distribution company.

Duke Energy is now only in the business of delivering electricity to their customers at delivery charges (distribution rates) that are regulated by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.

Duke Energy does not profit from the supply charges (generation) of the electricity bill.  However, they are mandated to offer default service, the price to compare, to customers who do not choose a competitive Ohio electricity supplier.  Currently there are electricity supply companies who are offering rates below the Duke Energy price to compare default rate. By selecting a rate lower than the price to compare rate you will see savings on your monthly Duke Energy electric bill
